About Nigel Downer
My interest in wildlife and nature began at primary school in the fifties - but it was not until the age of fifteen that I was able to afford my first camera. From then on I was hooked on combining my love of nature and being able to record its many wonders on film.
Later, I took the appropriate qualifications in photography and became an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society. During the mid-seventies I began a career as a lecturer in design and photographic subjects which continued through to the nineties and noughties, where I worked as a Course Team Leader in photography at an adult college in London.
I expanded my freelance career alongside my teaching, specialising in all aspects of natural history and the natural environment. Coming from a design background, I approach the subject from an artistic perspective. Abstract, close-ups, colour and fine details feature strongly in the images I produce.
Over the years, I have developed a large collection of images which is represented by several picture libraries as well as featuring on television, in books, magazines and advertisements worldwide.
